Past MOTHERS OF THE YEAR
2008 HAWAII MOTHER OF THE YEAR
Margaret Marie "Nip" Ho
Margaret “Nip” Ho was born in Waterloo, Iowa, raised in Midwest, Wyoming, and now lives in Pearl City, Hawaii. She has been married to her husband, Winston for 22 years and together they have raised three wonderful children.
Nip graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelors of Arts in Special Education K-12 and teaching certifications in Regular Elementary Education, Physical Education and Coaching Basketball. She received another teaching certification in Special Education birth through 5 from the University of Colorado. After graduation she taught Special Education to children ages 2-5 for 6 years.
Before having children, Nip and Winston decided that she would be a stay at
home mom where she could raise her children spiritually and morally as they wanted them to be raised.
She began working for Special Olympics Wyoming out of her home; coordinating all sports and fundraising activities for that program. This was the best of both worlds; working with an organization that you truly believe in and being able to stay at home and raise your children. With the move to Hawaii in 1996, she continued her career full time as her children were almost all in school. Nip continues to work for Special Olympics Hawaii as the Vice President of Area Services where she oversees the programs around the state. The passion that she feels for the special needs athletes that she works with is an integral part of who she is and subsequently, who her children are.
When asked what her greatest achievement has been in her life, she will tell you
that she and her husband have raised three of the best people in the world.
