Past MOTHERS OF THE YEAR

2007 HAWAII MOTHER OF THE YEAR
Bennette Evangelista

Despite achieving success in the corporate world, Bennette Misalucha Evangelista has never forgotten her most important role in life, MOM. Her loving marriage to Alfredo Evangelista, an attorney in private practice, has produced two wonderful children, Christian (20) and Danielle (15).

Bennette navigated difficult career choices by putting family first. A television journalist by training and experience, she switched to banking to accommodate family needs. Now on her third career, she’s excelled in all three while juggling
family and community obligations along the way. She is currently an executive for a global development company.

Her commitment to children is reflected in her community affiliations; First Vice Chair of Girl’s Scouts Council of Hawaii, Regent at Chaminade University, Board Member -YMCA and former Director of the YWCA.

Born in the Philippines to Benjamin and Avelina Misalucha, Bennette’s immigrant roots inspire her to assist disenfranchised communities and children gain access to educational and cultural resources.

Danielle Evangelista, Bennette’s 15 year old daughter has this to say about her mom, “Being a mom is hard work, but somehow my mom makes it look easy. I get a glimpse of my future as I watch her juggle her challenging job, two busy children, pressing community matters, and a loving marriage. She’s what I want to be. Not only is my mom the woman who gave me life, but also my best friend. We spend immense amounts of time together, enjoying each other’s company. I can tell her anything and she won’t judge me, no matter what the circumstances. She guides me through my tough teenage years and in my book, her love and support in whatever I do is enough to get an award.”

First, she loves chocolate, and you can say she’s as sweet as chocolate. She is irresistible and those around her can easily become addicted to her fun personality. Second, she loves Disneyland and anything “Disney”. She has completed two of Disney’s annual marathons, as evidenced by this medal. Her upbeat personality is very contagious and you can’t help but smile whenever you’re around her. She brings out the best in everyone she meets.
