MOTHER OF THE YEAR
Nominees for this award are sought yearly on the state level with recommendations coming from the mother's outside contacts such as church groups, choral groups, PTA organizations, local businesses etc. Nominees are well respected, devoted mothers who interact in a positive manner on a family, spiritual, community, and civic basis.

YOUNG MOTHER
Each state also has an opportunity to choose their nominee for the State Young Mother. This award honors dedicated, outstanding mothers who are striving to improve their parenting skills and whose children are 18 and younger. These mothers can be nominated at the state level by friends, family, and acquaintances.

2014 HAWAII MOTHER OF THE YEAR:
Julie Sparks

Raised in Clarkston, Michigan, Julie Sparks graduated from Central Michigan University where she studied Journalism. She moved to Hawaii in 1992 and established a medical clinic in Ewa Beach with her former husband. Julie married her husband Cory in 2009. They reside in Honolulu, Hawaii. Julie is a licensed Realtor and was named one of Honolulu's Best Realtors by Honolulu Magazine in 2013. She is currently in her final semester at the University of Hawaii's William S. Richardson School of Law. She serves the community as President of the Federalist Society, Treasurer of La Alianza, interning in the Senate Minority Research Office, and is a member of the choir at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu. Julie embraces physical fitness enjoying both kick-boxing and running. She continues to raise and mentor her three children, Brittany, Aaron, and Paige, and grandson Diego and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

2014 HAWAII YOUNG MOTHER OF THE YEAR:
Heidi Kim

Originally from Kauai, Heidi Kim currently resides in Aiea, Hawaii. Heidi graduated cum laude with a Marketing degree from Santa Clara University. She and college sweetheart Edwin Sniffen married in 1997 and spent time in Oregon advancing their professional careers before returning to Hawaii to raise their children. Today Heidi enjoys a full life as a mother of three boys (Sam, and twins Simon and Eli), marketing executive at engineering firm R.M. Towill Corporation, and active supporter of community causes. She has lent her time to the March of Dimes, Girl Scouts, American Diabetes Association, and Kamehameha Schools parent leadership team. She is a founding board member of Move Oahu Forward, a coalition of Hawaii business and community leaders, and assists in the oversight of her company's corporate giving program. Heidi believes in the power and responsibility of mothers to support positive growth opportunities for their children, families, and communities.
